Prepare the Sauce
In a large skillet or saucepan, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion, carrot, and celery, and sauté until the vegetables are softened, about 5-7 minutes.

Incorporate Liquids
Pour in the red wine and let it simmer for about 2-3 minutes until slightly reduced. Then add the canned tomatoes, tomato paste, oregano, salt, and pepper.

Simmer the Sauce
Reduce the heat to low, cover the pan, and let the sauce simmer for 30-40 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Cook the Spaghetti
While the sauce simmers, cook the spaghetti according to package instructions in a large pot of salted boiling water until al dente. Drain and set aside.

Combine and Serve
Once the sauce is ready, mix in the fresh basil. Serve the sauce over the spaghetti and enjoy!
