Calamari

Method

Calamari Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Calamari

In a large bowl, combine the cleaned and sliced calamari with milk and beaten egg. Let it marinate for 15 minutes.

  2. 2

    Mix the Coating

In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, cornstarch, salt, black pepper, and garlic powder.

  3. 3

    Coat the Calamari

After marinating, drain the calamari from the milk and egg mixture. Dip the calamari rings into the flour mixture, ensuring they are well-coated.

  4. 4

    Heat the Oil

In a deep frying pan or pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).

  5. 5

    Fry the Calamari

Carefully add the coated calamari rings to the hot oil in batches. Fry for about 2-3 minutes until golden brown and crispy. Remove and drain on paper towels.

Marinara Sauce Preparation

  1. 6

    Sauté Garlic

In a saucepan, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté until fragrant, about 1 minute.

  2. 7

    Add Tomatoes and Seasonings

Stir in the crushed tomatoes, oregano, salt, black pepper, and sugar. Bring to a simmer.

  3. 8

    Simmer the Sauce

Let the sauce simmer for about 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally. Add the chopped basil in the last 5 minutes of cooking.
