Fried Calamari
Method
Cooking Instructions
- 1
Prepare the Calamari
Rinse the calamari rings under cold water and pat them dry with paper towels.
- 2
Marinate
Place the calamari in a bowl and cover them with buttermilk. Let them marinate for at least 30 minutes in the refrigerator.
- 3
Prepare the Coating
In a separate bowl, mix together the flour, cornstarch, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and cayenne pepper.
- 4
Heat the Oil
In a large, deep skillet, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 375°F (190°C).
- 5
Coat the Calamari
Remove the calamari from the buttermilk and allow the excess to drip off. Dredge the calamari in the flour mixture, shaking off any excess.
- 6
Fry the Calamari
Carefully add the coated calamari to the hot oil in batches, ensuring not to overcrowd the pan. Fry for about 2-3 minutes or until golden brown and crispy.
- 7
Drain and Serve
Using a slotted spoon, remove the fried calamari and drain on paper towels. Serve hot with marinara sauce on the side.
