Prepare the Coffee Mixture

Brew Espresso or Coffee
Brew 1 cup of strong espresso or coffee and allow it to cool to room temperature.

Mix with Liqueur
If using, stir in 2 tablespoons of coffee liqueur into the cooled coffee.
Prepare the Filling

Whisk Egg Yolks
In a mixing bowl, whisk together 3 egg yolks and 1 tablespoon of granulated sugar until the mixture is pale and creamy.

Add Mascarpone
Gently fold in 1 cup of mascarpone cheese until fully combined and smooth.

Whip Heavy Cream
In a separate bowl, whip 1 cup of heavy cream and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract until stiff peaks form.

Combine Mixtures
Carefully fold the whipped cream into the mascarpone mixture until fully incorporated.
Assemble the Tiramisu

Soak Ladyfingers
Quickly dip each ladyfinger into the coffee mixture, ensuring they are soaked but not soggy.

Layer the Ingredients
In a serving dish, place a layer of soaked ladyfingers, then spread half of the mascarpone filling over them.

Repeat Layers
Add another layer of soaked ladyfingers followed by the remaining mascarpone filling.
Chill and Serve

Cover the dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, or preferably overnight.

Before serving, dust the top with 2 tablespoons of cocoa powder and sprinkle with dark chocolate shavings if desired.
