Flatbread Dough

Method

Dough Preparation

  1. 1

    Activate Yeast

In a small bowl, mix warm water and sugar. Sprinkle the active dry yeast over the top and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.

  2. 2

    Mix Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, combine all-purpose flour and salt. Make a well in the center and add the activated yeast mixture and olive oil.

  3. 3

    Knead the Dough

Mix the ingredients together until a dough forms. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes, until it's smooth and elastic.

  4. 4

    Let it Rise

Place the kneaded dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover it with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until it doubles in size.

Flatbread Assembly

  1. 5

    Preheat Oven

Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C). If using a pizza stone, place it in the oven to heat.

  2. 6

    Shape the Dough

Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into 2-4 equal portions. Roll each portion into a flat circle or rectangle, about 1/4 inch thick.

  3. 7

    Add Toppings

Brush the flatbreads with olive oil. Sprinkle garlic powder, dried herbs, grated cheese, and fresh vegetables on top as desired.

  4. 8

    Bake the Flatbreads

Place the flatbreads on a baking sheet or directly on the preheated pizza stone. Bake for 10-15 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown and the cheese is melted.

  5. 9

    Cool and Serve

Remove the flatbreads from the oven and let them cool slightly before slicing. Serve warm.
