Method
Preparation
- 1
Prepare the Pizza Dough
If using store-bought pizza dough, follow package instructions. If making your own, combine flour, yeast, salt, and water, knead until smooth, and let rise for about 1 hour until doubled in size.
Sauce Preparation
- 2
Make the Tomato Sauce
In a medium saucepan, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add minced garlic and sauté until fragrant, about 1 minute. Add canned San Marzano tomatoes and salt. Simmer for about 15-20 minutes until slightly thickened. Crush the tomatoes with a wooden spoon while cooking.
Assembly and Baking
- 3
Assemble the Pizza
Preheat the oven to 250°C (482°F) or as high as it can go. Roll out the pizza dough on a floured surface to your desired thickness. Transfer to a pizza stone or baking sheet. Spread the prepared tomato sauce evenly over the dough, leaving a small border around the edges.
- 4
Add Toppings
Tear the fresh mozzarella into small pieces and distribute them evenly over the sauce. Add the fresh basil leaves on top and drizzle with olive oil.
- 5
Bake the Pizza
Bake the pizza in the preheated oven for about 10-15 minutes or until the crust is golden and the cheese is bubbling and slightly browned.
- 6
Serve
Remove the pizza from the oven, let it cool for a minute, then slice and serve hot, garnished with additional fresh basil if desired.
