Cheese

Tomato Base

Method

Tomato Base Preparation

  1. 1

    Sauté Garlic

In a medium saucepan, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté for about 1 minute until fragrant, being careful not to burn it.

  2. 2

    Add Crushed Tomatoes

Add the crushed tomatoes to the saucepan. Stir well to combine with the garlic and oil.

  3. 3

    Season the Sauce

Add salt and chopped fresh basil to the tomato mixture. Stir and let it simmer for about 10 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld. Remove from heat and set aside.

Cheese Assembly

  1. 4

    Prepare Cheeses

While the tomato base is simmering, grate the mozzarella and Parmigiano-Reggiano cheeses. Keep the fontina and buttermilk ricotta aside for layering.

Final Assembly and Baking

  1. 5

    Layer the Ingredients

In a baking dish, start by spreading half of the tomato base on the bottom. Then layer half of the mozzarella, followed by the fontina cheese, and dollops of buttermilk ricotta. Repeat the layers with the remaining ingredients.

  2. 6

    Top with Parmigiano-Reggiano

Finish by sprinkling the grated Parmigiano-Reggiano cheese on top of the final layer.

  3. 7

    Bake

Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F). Bake the assembled dish for approximately 25-30 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden brown.

  4. 8

    Season with Black Pepper

Once out of the oven, sprinkle freshly ground black pepper over the top before serving.
