Meatballs

Method

Meatballs Preparation

  1. 1

    Mix Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, minced garlic, chopped parsley, salt, and black pepper. Mix well until all ingredients are thoroughly combined.

  2. 2

    Form Meatballs

Roll the mixture into meatballs, about 1.5 inches in diameter. Place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

  3. 3

    Chill

Refrigerate the meatballs for at least 30 minutes to help them hold their shape while cooking.

Sauce Preparation

  1. 4

    Sauté Onion and Garlic

In a large saucepan, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the finely chopped onion and sauté until it becomes translucent, about 5 minutes. Stir in the minced garlic and sauté for an additional minute.

  2. 5

    Add Tomatoes and Seasonings

Add the canned crushed tomatoes, dried oregano, salt, black pepper, and sugar to the saucepan. Bring the mixture to a simmer, then reduce the heat to low and let it cook for about 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Cooking Meatballs

  1. 6

    Cook Meatballs

In a large skillet over medium heat, add the meatballs (you may need to do this in batches). Cook until they are browned on all sides, about 8-10 minutes.

  2. 7

    Combine with Sauce

Once the meatballs are browned, transfer them to the simmering sauce. Let them simmer in the sauce for an additional 10-15 minutes, until cooked through.

Serving

  1. 8

    Plate and Garnish

Serve the meatballs topped with the sauce, and garnish with chopped fresh parsley and grated Parmigiano-Reggiano.
