Breadsticks

Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Activate the Yeast

In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and active dry yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.

  2. 2

    Mix the Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, salt, garlic powder, and dried Italian herbs. Mix well.

  3. 3

    Combine and Knead

Add the frothy yeast mixture and olive oil to the dry ingredients. Stir until a dough forms, then knead on a floured surface for about 5 minutes until smooth.

  4. 4

    First Rise

Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a clean cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.

  5. 5

    Shape the Breadsticks

After the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into 6 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a long stick, about 8 inches in length.

  6. 6

    Second Rise

Place the shaped breadsticks on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Cover and let them rise for another 20-30 minutes.

  7. 7

    Preheat and Bake

Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake the breadsticks for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown.

  8. 8

    Serve

Brush the warm breadsticks with olive oil and sprinkle with Parmesan cheese. Serve with red sauce or cheese dip.
