Base Ingredients

Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Create Red Wine Reduction

In a small saucepan, pour the red wine and bring it to a simmer over medium heat. Reduce the heat to low and let it simmer for about 15-20 minutes, or until it has reduced by half. Remove it from heat and let cool.

  2. 2

    Prepare Tobacco-infused Simple Syrup

In a small saucepan, combine equal parts sugar and water (1 cup each). Add a few tobacco leaves (ensure they are food grade) to the mixture. Heat over low heat until the sugar dissolves, then let it steep for about 30 minutes. Strain the syrup and let it cool.

Mixing the Drink

  1. 3

    Combine Ingredients

In a cocktail shaker filled with ice, combine 2 oz of mezcal, 1 oz of sweet vermouth, 0.5 oz of Delei amaro, and 0.5 oz of the prepared tobacco-infused simple syrup. Add 2 dashes of mole bitters.

  2. 4

    Shake

Shake the cocktail shaker vigorously for about 15 seconds until well chilled.

  3. 5

    Strain and Serve

Strain the mixture into a chilled coupe or rocks glass. Optional: garnish with a twist of orange peel or a tobacco leaf for presentation.
