Directions
- 1
Prepare the Dough
In a large bowl, mix the flour, yeast, sugar, baking powder, and salt. In a separate bowl, combine warm water and vegetable oil. Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, mixing until a dough forms.
- 2
Knead the Dough
Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.

- 4
Shape the Bao Buns
Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into equal portions. Roll each portion into a circle, place a spoonful of the mushroom filling in the center, and gather the edges to seal the bun.
- 5
Steam the Buns
Place the filled buns on a parchment-lined steamer basket. Steam over boiling water for about 10-12 minutes, or until fluffy and cooked through.
- 6
Serve
Serve the bao buns warm, drizzled with extra spicy sauce if desired.
