Method

Pie Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Apples

In a large mixing bowl, combine sliced apples, granulated sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, flour, lemon juice, and a pinch of salt. Toss until the apples are well coated. Let sit for 10-15 minutes to allow the juices to meld.

  2. 2

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C).

  3. 3

    Assemble the Pie

Roll out the pie crust and fit it into a 9-inch pie pan. Pour the apple mixture into the crust, spreading it evenly. If desired, add a second crust on top and cut slits for steam to escape.

  4. 4

    Bake the Pie

Bake in the preheated oven for 15 minutes. Then reduce the temperature to 350°F (175°C) and bake for an additional 30-35 minutes, or until the apples are tender and the crust is golden brown.

  5. 5

    Cool and Serve

Remove the pie from the oven and let it cool for at least 30 minutes before slicing. Serve warm, optionally with vanilla ice cream.
