Pretzel Sticks
Method
Preparation
- 1
Prepare the Dough
In a large mixing bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until frothy. Add the vegetable oil and salt. Gradually mix in the flour until a dough forms.
- 2
Knead the Dough
Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- 3
Shape the Pretzels
Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C). Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into 8 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a long rope, about 12-14 inches long, and shape into a pretzel.
- 4
Boil and Bake
In a large pot, bring 10 cups of water and the baking soda to a boil. Carefully drop each pretzel into the boiling water for about 30 seconds, then remove and place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Sprinkle coarse sea salt on top.
- 5
Bake
Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown. Remove from the oven and let cool slightly before serving.
