1

Prep glass

Select an Old Fashioned (rocks) glass and chill it briefly by filling with ice and setting aside while you build the cocktail.

2

Mix base

In a mixing glass or shaker filled with ice, add 1.5 oz gin, 0.5 oz Campari, 0.5 oz sweet vermouth, 0.25 oz simple syrup, and 2 dashes Angostura bitters.

3

Stir and dilute

Stir the mixture briskly for 20–30 seconds (about 15–20 revolutions) until well-chilled and slightly diluted. This ensures a smooth, balanced Old Fashioned-style texture.

4

Prepare serving glass

Discard the ice used to chill the serving glass and place a large ice cube (or fresh ice) into the glass.

5

Strain

Strain the chilled cocktail into the prepared Old Fashioned glass over the large ice cube.

6

Garnish

Express the oils from an orange peel over the drink by holding it skin-side down above the glass and giving it a firm twist. Rub the peel's rim on the glass, then drop the twist into the drink as garnish.

7

Serve

Present immediately. Offer a stirrer so the drinker can adjust dilution to taste.
