Method
Preparation
- 1
Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 450°F (232°C). This will ensure that your biscuits bake quickly and rise beautifully.
- 2
Mix Dry Ingredients
In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Whisk them together until well blended.
- 3
Cut in Butter
Take the unsalted butter and cut it into small cubes. Add it to the flour mixture. Using a pastry cutter or your fingers, work the butter into the flour until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- 4
Add Buttermilk
Make a well in the center of the flour mixture and pour in the buttermilk. Stir gently with a wooden spoon or spatula until just combined. Be careful not to overmix; a few lumps are okay.
- 5
Knead the Dough
Turn the dough out onto a floured surface. Gently knead it a couple of times (about 5-6 times) to bring it together. Pat it out to about 1-inch thickness.
- 6
Cut Biscuits
Using a biscuit cutter or a glass, cut out biscuits from the dough. Place them on a lined baking sheet, making sure they are touching for soft sides.
- 7
Bake
Bake the biscuits in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes or until they are golden brown on top.
- 8
Cool and Serve
Remove the biscuits from the oven and let them cool for a few minutes on the baking sheet. Serve warm with butter, jam, or your favorite spread.
