Biscuit Ingredients

Method

Biscuit Preparation

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C). This ensures the biscuits will bake quickly and rise properly.

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt until well combined.

  3. 3

    Cut in Butter

Cut the unsalted butter into small cubes and add it to the dry ingredients. Using a pastry cutter or your fingers, work the butter into the flour mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs.

  4. 4

    Add Buttermilk

Make a well in the center of the dry mixture and pour in the buttermilk. Stir gently until just combined, being careful not to overmix.

  5. 5

    Form the Biscuits

Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead gently a few times. Pat it into a 1-inch thick rectangle. Use a biscuit cutter or a glass to cut out biscuits and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

  6. 6

    Bake

Bake the biscuits in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes or until they are golden brown on top.

  7. 7

    Serve with Jam

Allow the biscuits to cool slightly before serving them warm with your choice of two jams.
