Method
Tea Base
- 1
Brew tea
Bring 2 cups water to a near boil in a small saucepan or kettle. Remove from heat and add 2 tablespoons black tea leaves (or 2 tea bags). Steep for 4β5 minutes for medium strength; 6 minutes for stronger tea.
- 2
Sweeten and cool
Remove the tea leaves or strain out the tea bags. While the tea is still warm, stir in 2 tablespoons granulated sugar until dissolved. Transfer tea to a heatproof container and chill in the fridge for at least 15 minutes, or set aside to cool to room temperature.
Strawberry Syrup
- 3
Cook strawberries
Combine 1 cup chopped strawberries, 1 cup water, and 3 tablespoons sugar in a small saucepan. Bring to a gentle simmer over medium heat, stirring occasionally. Simmer for 8β10 minutes, until strawberries have softened and the mixture has slightly thickened.
- 4
Puree and strain
Remove from heat. Use an immersion blender or transfer to a blender and puree until smooth. If you prefer a smooth syrup, strain the puree through a fine mesh sieve into a bowl, pressing solids to extract juice; discard solids. Allow the syrup to cool to room temperature. Reserve 3 tablespoons of the syrup or puree for assembly and store any extra in the fridge for up to 5 days.
Milk Tea Assembly

- 6
Add strawberry and ice
Add 3 tablespoons reserved strawberry syrup/puree to the milk tea and stir to combine. Fill a serving glass with about 1 cup ice cubes, then pour the strawberry milk tea over the ice. Stir gently to mix.
- 7
Garnish and serve
Garnish with 2 sliced fresh strawberries on top or on the rim. Serve immediately with a straw. Optionally, drizzle an extra tablespoon of strawberry syrup inside the glass before pouring for a layered look.
