In a large mixing bowl, sift together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- 3
- 4
Combine Mixtures
Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until just combined.
- 5
Add Boiling Water
Carefully stir in the boiling water. The batter will be thin.
- 6
Bake the Cake
Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- 7
Cool the Cake
Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then turn out onto wire racks to cool completely.
Ganache Preparation
- 8
Heat the Cream
In a small saucepan, heat the heavy cream over medium heat until it just begins to simmer.
- 9
Melt the Chocolate
Remove the saucepan from heat and add the semi-sweet chocolate chips. Let sit for 5 minutes.
- 10
Stir Until Smooth
Stir the mixture until completely smooth. Allow it to cool slightly before using.
Final Assembly
- 11
Layer the Cakes
Once the cakes are completely cool, place one layer on a serving plate and spread a layer of ganache on top.
- 12
Top with Second Layer
Place the second cake layer on top and pour the remaining ganache over the top, allowing it to drip down the sides.
- 13
Serve
Let the cake sit for about 30 minutes to allow the ganache to set, then slice and serve.
