Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Wash the Broccoli

Rinse the fresh broccoli florets under cold running water to remove any dirt or debris. Shake off excess water.

  2. 2

    Cut the Broccoli

Using a sharp knife, cut the broccoli into smaller, bite-sized florets, if necessary. Ensure that they are uniform in size for even steaming.

Steaming

  1. 3

    Prepare the Steamer

Fill a pot with about 1 inch of water and bring it to a boil over medium-high heat. Use a steamer basket that fits snugly in the pot without touching the water.

  2. 4

    Steam the Broccoli

Once the water is boiling, place the broccoli florets in the steamer basket. Cover the pot with a lid and steam for 4-5 minutes, or until the broccoli is bright green and tender but still crisp.

  3. 5

    Check for Doneness

After 4-5 minutes, check the broccoli for doneness by piercing it with a fork. It should be tender but not mushy. If needed, steam for an additional minute.

Seasoning

  1. 6

    Season the Broccoli

Once the broccoli is done steaming, carefully remove the steamer basket from the pot. Transfer the broccoli to a serving bowl.

  2. 7

    Add Seasoning

Drizzle the olive oil and lemon juice over the steamed broccoli. Sprinkle with salt and black pepper to taste. Toss gently to combine.
