Fried Banana Peppers

Method

Fried Banana Peppers

  1. 1

    Prepare the Peppers

Wash the banana peppers thoroughly under cold water. Pat them dry with a paper towel. Cut off the stems and slice each pepper in half lengthwise, removing the seeds if desired for less heat.

  2. 2

    Prepare the Coating

In a bowl, mix the all-purpose flour, cornmeal, salt, black pepper, and garlic powder until well combined.

  3. 3

    Prepare the Egg Mixture

In another bowl, whisk together the eggs and milk until smooth.

  4. 4

    Heat the Oil

In a deep frying pan or fryer, heat the vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C). Use a thermometer for accuracy.

  5. 5

    Coat the Peppers

Dip each banana pepper half first into the egg mixture, allowing any excess to drip off, then coat them in the flour-cornmeal mixture. Make sure they are evenly coated.

  6. 6

    Fry the Peppers

Carefully place the coated banana peppers into the hot oil in batches to avoid overcrowding. Fry until they turn golden brown, about 3-4 minutes per side. Remove them with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.

Cocktail Sauce

  1. 7

    Mix the Sauce

In a small bowl, combine the ketchup, horseradish, lemon juice, and Worcestershire sauce. Stir until well mixed.

  2. 8

    Serve

Transfer the fried banana peppers to a serving platter and serve hot with the cocktail sauce on the side for dipping.
