Method

Cocktail

  1. 1

    Muddle

Place 8 fresh mint leaves in a cocktail shaker. Add the 0.75 oz simple syrup and 0.75 oz fresh lime juice. Gently muddle the mint just enough to bruise the leaves and release the oils — do not pulverize (about 6–8 gentle presses).

  2. 2

    Combine

Add 2 oz Hendrick's Gin to the shaker with the muddled mint, lime juice, and simple syrup.

  3. 3

    Shake

Fill the shaker with ice (about 1 cup) and shake vigorously for 12–15 seconds until the exterior of the shaker is cold and well-chilled.

  4. 4

    Double-strain (optional)

Fine-strain the cocktail into a chilled coupe or coupe-style cocktail glass using both the shaker strainer and a fine mesh strainer to catch small mint fragments and ice shards. Alternatively, you may pour unstrained if you prefer more texture.

Garnish

  1. 5

Express the oils of a lime wheel over the finished cocktail by holding it skin-side down above the drink and giving it a gentle squeeze, then drop the wheel or set a lime wedge on the rim. Finish with one fresh mint sprig: clap the mint between your palms once to awaken the aroma and place it on top of the drink as garnish.
