Cocktail

Method

Cocktail

  1. 1

    Measure and Combine

Chill a coupe or Nick & Nora glass by filling it with ice water and set aside. In a mixing glass or shaker, add 2 oz Woodford Reserve Bourbon, 0.75 oz Amer China China, 0.5 oz Bordiga Vermouth Bianco, and 0.25 oz Luxardo Maraschino.

  2. 2

    Add ice and stir

Fill the mixing glass with plenty of ice (about 1 cup). Stir gently and continuously for 20–30 seconds (or until the mixing glass registers around 8–10°F / very cold and the liquid is well chilled and slightly diluted). Aim for about 20–25% dilution appropriate for stirred spirit-forward cocktails.

  3. 3

    Prepare glass

Discard the ice water from the chilled glass and, if desired, run the zest of an orange around the rim to lightly oil it.

  4. 4

    Strain and serve

Double-strain the chilled cocktail from the mixing glass into the prepared coupe or Nick & Nora glass using a Hawthorne and julep strainer (or a fine mesh strainer if available) to ensure a clean, clear pour.

Garnish

  1. 5

Express the orange twist over the drink by holding the twist skin-side down over the cocktail and giving it a sharp squeeze to release the oils. Rub the twist around the rim and drop it into the glass. Optionally, garnish with one Luxardo cherry on a pick.
