Cheese Sticks
Marinara Sauce
Method
Cheese Sticks Preparation
- 1
Prepare the Cheese
Take the mozzarella cheese sticks and freeze them for at least 30 minutes. This helps to keep the cheese from melting too quickly while frying.
- 2
Set Up Breading Station
In three separate shallow bowls, prepare the breading station: 1st bowl with flour, 2nd bowl with beaten eggs, and 3rd bowl with breadcrumbs mixed with Parmesan cheese, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper.
- 3
Bread the Cheese Sticks
Roll each frozen mozzarella stick first in the flour, then dip into the beaten eggs, and finally coat with the breadcrumb mixture. Make sure they are fully coated.
- 4
Chill Again
Place the breaded mozzarella sticks on a baking sheet and refrigerate for another 15 minutes.
Marinara Sauce Preparation
- 5
Cook the Sauce
In a saucepan, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add minced garlic cloves and sauté for 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
- 6
Add Tomatoes and Seasonings
Pour in the canned crushed tomatoes, and add oregano, salt, black pepper, and sugar. Stir well and let simmer for 15-20 minutes on low heat.
- 7
Finish the Sauce
Stir in the fresh basil at the end of the cooking time and remove from heat. Keep warm until serving.
Frying the Cheese Sticks
- 8
Heat the Oil
In a large pot or deep fryer, heat the vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C).
- 9
Fry the Cheese Sticks
Carefully add the breaded cheese sticks in batches to the hot oil. Fry for 2-3 minutes or until golden brown, turning occasionally.
- 10
Drain and Serve
Remove the fried mozzarella sticks and place them on paper towels to drain excess oil. Serve hot with marinara sauce.
