Method

Preparing the Patties

  1. 1

    Mix the Ingredients

In a mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, salt, and black pepper. Use your hands to mix until just combined. Do not overwork the meat.

  2. 2

    Form the Patties

Divide the meat mixture into 4 equal portions and shape each portion into a patty that is slightly larger than the burger bun. Make a small indentation in the center of each patty to prevent them from puffing up while cooking.

Cooking the Patties

  1. 3

    Preheat the Grill or Skillet

Preheat your grill or skillet over medium-high heat. If using a skillet, add a small amount of oil to prevent sticking.

  2. 4

    Cook the Patties

Place the patties on the grill or skillet and cook for about 4-5 minutes on one side until browned. Flip the patties and cook for another 4-5 minutes. If you want melted cheese, place a slice of cheddar cheese on each patty during the last minute of cooking.

Assembling the Burgers

  1. 5

    Prepare the Buns

Toast the burger buns on the grill or in a toaster until lightly browned.

  2. 6

    Add Toppings

On the bottom half of each toasted bun, place a lettuce leaf, followed by the cooked patty with melted cheese. Add slices of tomato and red onion on top. Finish with ketchup, mustard, and pickles as desired. Top with the other half of the bun.
