Method

Preparing Grape Juice

  1. 1

    Extract Juice

Wash the Catawba grapes thoroughly. In a large pot, combine the grapes and 1 cup of water. Bring to a boil over medium heat, then reduce to a simmer. Stir occasionally, crushing the grapes with a spoon to release their juice. Simmer for about 15 minutes.

  2. 2

    Strain Juice

Remove the pot from heat. Using a fine mesh strainer or cheesecloth, strain the mixture into a bowl, pressing down on the solids to extract as much juice as possible. Discard solids.

  3. 3

    Sweeten Juice

Return the strained juice to the pot. Add 1 cup of sugar and 2 tablespoons of lemon juice. Heat gently, stirring until the sugar is completely dissolved. Allow the mixture to cool to room temperature.

Carbonation

  1. 4

    Mix with Sparkling Water

Once the grape juice mixture has cooled, pour it into a large pitcher. Slowly add 3 cups of sparkling water, gently stirring to combine. Be careful not to agitate too much to preserve the fizziness.

Serving

  1. 5

    Garnish and Serve

Pour the sparkling pink Catawba grape juice into glasses. Garnish with fresh mint leaves and lemon slices if desired. Serve immediately and enjoy!
