Method
Preparation
- 1
Season the Steak
Take the Bone-In Ribeye steaks out of the refrigerator and let them sit at room temperature for about 30-60 minutes before cooking. This ensures even cooking. Generously season both sides of the steaks with kosher salt and black pepper.
- 2
Prepare the Aromatics
Smash the garlic cloves with the side of a knife but do not chop them. This will allow them to infuse flavor into the steak while cooking. Set aside.
Cooking

- 4
Sear the Steak
Carefully place the seasoned Bone-In Ribeye steaks in the hot skillet. Sear for about 4-5 minutes without moving them, allowing a nice crust to form.
- 5
Flip and Add Aromatics
Flip the steaks using tongs, and add the smashed garlic cloves and fresh thyme to the skillet. Cook for an additional 4-5 minutes on the second side.
- 6
Baste with Butter
Add the unsalted butter to the skillet. As it melts, use a spoon to baste the butter over the steaks. Continue cooking for another 2-4 minutes, depending on your desired doneness (use a meat thermometer for accuracy).
- 7
Rest the Steak
Remove the steaks from the skillet and transfer them to a cutting board. Tent loosely with foil and let them rest for 10 minutes before slicing. This allows the juices to redistribute.
