Chili Base

Method

Chili Preparation

  1. 1

    Sauté the Vegetables

In a large pot, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add chopped onion and bell peppers, and sauté for about 5 minutes until they are softened.

  2. 2

    Add Garlic

Add minced garlic to the pot and cook for an additional 1-2 minutes until fragrant.

  3. 3

    Brown the Beef

Add the ground beef to the pot. Cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spoon, about 5-7 minutes.

  4. 4

    Combine Ingredients

Stir in the canned diced tomatoes, kidney beans, black beans, chili powder, cumin, salt, and black pepper. Mix well to combine.

  5. 5

    Simmer

Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat to low. Cover and let it simmer for at least 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Serving

  1. 6

    Serve the Chili

Ladle the chili into bowls and top with shredded Widmer cheddar cheese, chopped cilantro, and a dollop of sour cream.
