Method

Cake Preparation

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a medium bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.

  3. 3

    Cream Butter and Sugars

In a large bowl, using an electric mixer, cream together the unsalted butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.

  4. 4

    Add Eggs and Vanilla

Beat in the eggs, one at a time, followed by the vanilla extract until well combined.

  5. 5

    Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients

Gradually add the dry ingredient mixture to the wet mixture, alternating with the whole milk. Begin and end with the dry ingredients, mixing until just combined.

  6. 6

    Scoop Batter

Using a cookie scoop, drop spoonfuls of batter onto the prepared baking sheet, leaving space between each dollop.

  7. 7

    Bake the Cakes

Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Allow to cool completely on a wire rack.

Frosting Preparation

  1. 8

    Cream Butter

In a medium bowl, beat the unsalted butter with an electric mixer until creamy and smooth.

  2. 9

    Add Sugar and Vanilla

Gradually add the powdered sugar and mix until fully incorporated. Add the vanilla extract.

  3. 10

    Adjust Consistency

Add the milk, one tablespoon at a time, mixing until the frosting reaches your desired consistency.

Assembly

  1. 11

    Frost the Cakes

Take one cooled chocolate cake piece and spread a generous amount of frosting on the flat side. Top with another cake piece, flat side down, to create a sandwich.

  2. 12

    Serve

Repeat the process for all cake pieces. Serve immediately or store in an airtight container.
