Method

Dough Preparation

  1. 1

    Activate Yeast

In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and active dry yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, combine all-purpose flour and salt. Mix well.

  3. 3

    Combine Ingredients

Make a well in the center of the flour mixture, add the activated yeast mixture, and olive oil. Mix until a dough forms.

  4. 4

    Kneading Dough

Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.

  5. 5

    First Rise

Form the dough into a ball, place it in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.

Garlic Butter Preparation

  1. 6

    Melt Butter

In a small saucepan over low heat, melt the unsalted butter.

  2. 7

    Add Garlic and Seasonings

Add minced garlic, dried parsley, and salt to the melted butter. Stir and cook for about 1-2 minutes until fragrant. Remove from heat.

Marinara Sauce Preparation

  1. 8

    Cook Sauce

In a saucepan, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add minced garlic and sauté for 1 minute until fragrant.

  2. 9

    Combine Ingredients

Add canned crushed tomatoes, dried oregano, salt, and black pepper. Stir and let simmer for 15-20 minutes. Add fresh basil before serving.

Knot Formation and Baking

  1. 10

    Shape Knots

Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Punch down the risen dough and transfer it to a floured surface. Divide the dough into 12 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a rope about 6 inches long, then tie into a knot.

  2. 11

    Second Rise

Place the knots on a greased baking sheet. Cover with a cloth and let rise for another 20 minutes.

  3. 12

    Bake Knots

Bake the knots in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown.

  4. 13

    Brush with Garlic Butter

Remove the knots from the oven and immediately brush them with the garlic butter mixture.
