Method
Preparation
- 1
Slice the Onions
Peel the large onions and slice them into 1/4 inch thick rings. Separate the rings and set aside.
- 2
Prepare the Batter
In a bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, baking powder, salt, black pepper, and paprika. Mix well.
- 3
- 4
Mix the Batter
Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, whisking until the batter is smooth and free of lumps.
- 5
Prepare Breadcrumbs
Place the breadcrumbs in a shallow dish for coating the onion rings.
Frying
- 6
Heat the Oil
In a large, deep frying pan or pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).
- 7
Coat the Onion Rings
Dip each onion ring into the batter, allowing excess batter to drip off. Then, coat the ring in breadcrumbs.
- 8
Fry the Onion Rings
Carefully place the coated onion rings into the hot oil in batches, frying until they are golden brown (about 2-4 minutes).
- 9
Drain the Onion Rings
Using a slotted spoon, remove the onion rings from the oil and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to absorb excess oil.
Serving
- 10
Serve Hot
Serve the crispy onion rings hot with your favorite dipping sauce, such as ranch or marinara.
