Method

For the Mozzarella Sticks

  1. 1

    Prepare the Cheese

Freeze the mozzarella sticks for at least 30 minutes to ensure they don't melt during frying.

  2. 2

    Set Up Breading Station

In three separate bowls, set up your breading station: one with flour, one with beaten eggs, and one with breadcrumbs mixed with garlic powder, Italian seasoning, salt, and black pepper.

  3. 3

    Bread the Cheese

Remove the frozen mozzarella sticks from the freezer. Dip each stick first in flour, then in the beaten eggs, and finally in the breadcrumb mixture, ensuring they are fully coated. Repeat until all sticks are breaded.

  4. 4

    Heat the Oil

In a deep pot or fryer, heat the vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C). Use a thermometer for accuracy.

  5. 5

    Fry the Mozzarella Sticks

Carefully place a few breaded mozzarella sticks in the hot oil at a time. Fry for about 2-3 minutes or until golden brown, turning occasionally for even cooking.

  6. 6

    Drain and Serve

Remove the fried mozzarella sticks and place them on paper towels to drain excess oil. Serve hot with marinara sauce.

For the Marinara Sauce

  1. 7

    Cook the Sauce

In a saucepan, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add minced garlic cloves and sauté until fragrant, about 1 minute.

  2. 8

    Add Tomatoes and Seasonings

Add the canned crushed tomatoes, dried basil, sugar, salt, and black pepper to the saucepan. Stir well to combine.

  3. 9

    Simmer the Sauce

Bring the sauce to a gentle simmer and let it cook for 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally.

  4. 10

    Adjust Seasoning

Taste the sauce and adjust the seasoning with additional salt or pepper if necessary.

  5. 11

    Serve

Remove from heat and serve the marinara sauce warm alongside the fried mozzarella sticks.
