Fried Calamari
Method
Preparation and Cooking
- 1
Prepare the Calamari
Rinse the calamari rings under cold water and pat them dry with paper towels.
- 2
Make the Breading
In a large bowl, mix together the flour, cornstarch, salt, black pepper, paprika, and garlic powder.
- 3
Soak in Buttermilk
Place the calamari rings in a separate bowl and pour the buttermilk over them. Let them soak for about 30 minutes.
- 4
Heat the Oil
In a deep frying pan or pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 375°F (190°C).
- 5
Coat the Calamari
Remove the calamari from the buttermilk and let the excess drip off. Dredge them in the flour mixture until well coated.
- 6
Fry the Calamari
Carefully place the coated calamari in the hot oil in batches, being careful not to overcrowd the pan. Fry for about 2-3 minutes or until golden brown.
- 7
Drain and Serve
Remove the fried calamari with a slotted spoon and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil. Serve hot with marinara sauce.
