Fried Buttermilk Chicken Thighs

Griddled-Cake (Waffles)

Maple-Bourbon-Brown-Butter Sauce

Hickory Bacon

Method

Fried Buttermilk Chicken Thighs

  1. 1

    Marinate the Chicken

In a large bowl, combine the buttermilk, paprika, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. Add the chicken thighs, ensuring they are fully submerged in the marinade. Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, preferably overnight.

  2. 2

    Prepare for Frying

In a shallow dish, place the flour. Remove the chicken from the marinade, allowing excess marinade to drip off, then dredge each thigh in the flour, shaking off the excess.

  3. 3

    Fry the Chicken

In a large skillet, heat oil over medium-high heat. Once hot, add the coated chicken thighs in batches (do not overcrowd the pan). Fry until golden brown and cooked through, about 6-8 minutes per side. Remove and drain on paper towels.

Griddled-Cake (Waffles)

  1. 4

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt.

  2. 5

    Mix Wet Ingredients

In another bowl, beat the eggs and then whisk in the milk, melted butter, and vanilla extract until well combined.

  3. 6

    Combine Ingredients

Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients. Stir until just combined; do not overmix.

  4. 7

    Cook the Waffles

Preheat the waffle iron according to the manufacturer's instructions. Pour the batter into the preheated waffle iron and cook until golden brown. Remove and keep warm.

Maple-Bourbon-Brown-Butter Sauce

  1. 8

    Brown the Butter

In a saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter. Continue to cook, stirring frequently, until the butter turns golden brown and has a nutty aroma, about 5-7 minutes.

  2. 9

    Add Maple and Bourbon

Remove from heat and stir in the maple syrup and bourbon. Return to low heat and stir to combine.

Hickory Bacon

  1. 10

    Cook the Bacon

In a skillet over medium heat, cook the hickory smoked bacon until crispy. Drain on paper towels.
