Dry Ingredients

Wet Ingredients

Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, instant yeast, salt, and sugar. Whisk them together until well combined.

  2. 2

    Combine Wet Ingredients

In a separate bowl, mix the warm water and olive oil. Stir to combine.

Dough Formation

  1. 3

    Form the Dough

Gradually pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients while stirring with a wooden spoon or spatula. Continue mixing until a shaggy dough forms.

  2. 4

    Knead the Dough

Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes until it is smooth and elastic. Add more flour if the dough is too sticky.

Rising

  1. 5

    First Rise

Place the kneaded dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover it with a damp cloth or plastic wrap, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.

Shaping

  1. 6

    Divide the Dough

After the dough has risen, punch it down to release the air. Divide it into 8 equal pieces.

  2. 7

    Shape the Pitas

Roll each piece into a ball and then flatten it into a disc about 1/4 inch thick. Place them on a floured surface, cover with a damp cloth, and let them rest for 30 minutes.

Baking

  1. 8

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C). If using a baking stone, place it in the oven during preheating.

  2. 9

    Bake the Pitas

Carefully place the dough discs on the baking stone or a baking sheet. Bake for 5-7 minutes or until they puff up and are lightly golden. Remove them from the oven and cover with a clean towel to keep warm.
