Sauce Base

Method

Preparing the Sauce

  1. 1

    Heat the Olive Oil

In a medium saucepan, heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil over medium heat until shimmering.

  2. 2

    Sauté the Garlic

Add 3 teaspoons of minced garlic to the pan and sauté for about 1-2 minutes until fragrant, being careful not to let it brown.

  3. 3

    Add Crushed Tomatoes

Pour in the 28 ounces of canned crushed tomatoes, stirring to combine with the garlic and oil.

  4. 4

    Season the Sauce

Add 1 teaspoon of salt and 1 teaspoon of black pepper to the sauce. Stir well and bring to a simmer.

  5. 5

    Simmer the Sauce

Reduce the heat to low and let the sauce simmer for about 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Finishing the Sauce

  1. 6

    Add Fresh Basil

Once the sauce has thickened slightly, stir in 1 cup of chopped fresh basil leaves.

  2. 7

    Incorporate Parmesan

Remove the sauce from heat and stir in 0.5 cup of grated Parmesan cheese until melted and well combined.

  3. 8

    Taste and Adjust

Taste the sauce and adjust seasoning if necessary, adding more salt or pepper to taste.
