Method

Pasta Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Lasagna Noodles

Boil a large pot of salted water. Add the lasagna noodles and cook according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.

Meat Sauce Preparation

  1. 2

    Cook the Meat Sauce

In a large skillet, heat a tablespoon of oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic, sautéing until translucent. Add the ground beef, breaking it apart with a spatula, and cook until browned. Stir in the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, Italian seasoning, salt, and black pepper. Simmer for about 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Béchamel Sauce Preparation

  1. 3

    Make the Béchamel Sauce

In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Whisk in the flour and cook for 1-2 minutes. Gradually add the milk, whisking continuously to prevent lumps. Cook until the sauce thickens, about 5-7 minutes. Add nutmeg and salt, stirring to combine.

Assembly

  1. 4

    Assemble the Lasagna

Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F). In a baking dish, spread a thin layer of meat sauce on the bottom. Layer 3 lasagna noodles on top, followed by a portion of the meat sauce, a layer of béchamel sauce, and a sprinkle of mozzarella cheese. Repeat the layers, finishing with noodles, béchamel sauce, and a generous amount of mozzarella and Parmesan cheese on top.

  2. 5

    Bake the Lasagna

Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake for 25 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until the top is golden and bubbling. Let it cool for 10 minutes before slicing and serving.
