Method
Strawberry Sauce (optional homemade)
Make quick sauce
Combine 1 cup quartered strawberries, 2 tbsp sugar, 1 tsp lemon juice and 1 tbsp water in a small saucepan.
Cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until strawberries break down and mixture thickens slightly, about 6–8 minutes.
If you prefer a smooth sauce, mash with the back of a spoon or pulse briefly with an immersion blender. For a chunkier sauce, leave as is.
Remove from heat and let cool to warm or room temperature; sauce will thicken a bit as it cools. Use about 3 tbsp for each sundae (leftover sauce keeps refrigerated up to 5 days).
Base & Fruit
Evenly distribute 1 cup sliced fresh strawberries over the ice cream, reserving a few slices for garnish.
Drizzle 3 tbsp of the prepared strawberry sauce over the scoops and fruit, letting some sauce run down the sides for a pretty presentation.
Toppings
Top the sundae with 2 tbsp whipped cream, either from a can or freshly whipped.
Sprinkle 1 tbsp toasted sliced almonds (or chopped nuts) and 1 tsp chocolate shavings or sprinkles over the whipped cream.
Place 1 maraschino cherry on top and garnish with the reserved strawberry slices.
Serve immediately with a long spoon.
