Method

Prepare water and tea

1

Measure and heat water

Measure 1 cup (about 240 ml) of fresh cold water. Heat the water until it reaches 175–185°F (80–85°C). If you don't have a thermometer, bring water to a simmer and remove from heat just before it starts boiling (small bubbles forming).

2

Prewarm cup or teapot (optional)

Pour a small amount of the hot water into your cup or teapot, swirl, then discard. This helps maintain steeping temperature.

3

Add tea

Place 1 teaspoon of loose green tea (or 1 green tea bag) into the warmed cup or teapot.

Steeping

4

Pour the heated water over the tea leaves or tea bag, ensuring the leaves are fully submerged. Cover the cup or pot (use a saucer or lid) to keep heat in.

5

Steep for 2–3 minutes for a light, delicate flavor. For a slightly stronger cup, steep up to 3.5 minutes. Avoid steeping longer than 4 minutes to prevent bitterness.

6

If using loose tea, remove the infuser or strain the tea leaves. If using a tea bag, remove the bag. Do not squeeze the bag aggressively (it releases bitter compounds).

Finish and serve

7

Taste the tea. If desired, add 1 teaspoon of honey or another sweetener and stir until dissolved. Add 1 teaspoon fresh lemon juice for brightness, or garnish with 2–3 fresh mint leaves. Adjust to taste.

8

Serve hot and enjoy. If making multiple servings, scale ingredients and steeping vessel accordingly.
