Base Preparation
- 1
Bake the Chocolate Cake
Prepare and bake a chocolate cake according to your favorite recipe or a box mix. Allow it to cool completely before serving.
- 2
Prepare the Whipped Cream
In a mixing bowl, whip 2 cups of heavy cream until soft peaks form. Sweeten to taste with powdered sugar if desired.
- 3
Arrange Fresh Berries
Rinse and dry the fresh berries. Set aside for garnishing.
Flaming Sauce Preparation
- 4
Prepare the Sauce
In a saucepan over medium heat, combine 1 cup of dark rum, 1/2 cup of brown sugar, 4 tablespoons of butter, 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract, and 1 teaspoon of cinnamon. Stir until the sugar dissolves and the mixture is slightly thickened.
- 5
Ignite the Sauce
Using a long lighter or match, carefully ignite the sauce in the pan. Allow the flames to burn for about 30 seconds to a minute to infuse the flavors.
Assembly and Presentation
- 6
Assemble the Dessert
Place a slice of chocolate cake on a serving plate. Top with a generous dollop of whipped cream and arrange fresh berries on top.
- 7
Add the Flaming Sauce
Pour the flaming sauce over the cake, allowing it to cascade over the sides. Be cautious while pouring to keep the flames ignited.
- 8
Garnish
Finish by delicately placing an edible gold leaf on top of the dessert and a few mint leaves for a fresh touch.
- 9
Serve Immediately
Serve the dessert immediately while the sauce is still flaming for a dramatic presentation.
