Method
Coffee Base
- 1
Brew 1 cup of strong coffee. Use fresh grounds and hot water (about 195–205°F / 90–96°C). If using instant, dissolve 1–2 tsp in 1 cup hot water. Pour 1 cup of the hot coffee into a pre-warmed Irish coffee or heatproof glass.
Spirits & Sweeteners
- 2
Combine spirits
Add 1.5 oz Jack Daniel's Tennessee Whiskey and 0.75 oz imported Amaretto to the hot coffee.
- 3
Stir in 0.5 tablespoon brown sugar simple syrup (or 1 teaspoon packed brown sugar). Stir thoroughly until the sugar is dissolved and the liquid is evenly warmed. Taste and adjust sweetness if desired.
- 4
If you prefer a smoother, slightly sweeter finish, prepare brown sugar simple syrup ahead by heating equal parts brown sugar and water until dissolved, then cooling. Use 1/2 tablespoon per drink as listed.
Cream & Garnish
- 5
Lightly whip 2 tablespoons heavy cream until it’s just thickened but still pourable (or use chilled half-and-half). Using the back of a spoon held just above the coffee surface, slowly pour the cream so it floats on top of the drink to create a layered appearance.
- 6
Optional: Pipe or spoon about 2 tablespoons whipped cream on top for a richer presentation.
- 7
Finish with a light dusting of 1/4 teaspoon chocolate shavings or cocoa powder over the cream and garnish with 2 whole coffee beans if desired.
- 8
Serve immediately with a demitasse spoon. Instruct guests they can stir the cream into the coffee as they drink or sip through the cream.
