Coffee Base
Apricot Brandy & Sweetener
Cream & Garnish
Method
Coffee Base
- 1
Brew Coffee
Brew 1 cup of very strong hot coffee (preferably espresso or strongly brewed drip). Keep it piping hot.
- 2
Preheat the serving glass or mug by rinsing with hot water and discarding the water. This helps the drink keep temperature.
Assemble Drink
- 3
In the warmed mug, add 1 oz Kahlúa and 0.75 oz apricot brandy.
- 4
If you prefer a slightly sweeter drink, add 0.5 tsp simple syrup and stir briefly to combine the liqueurs and syrup.
- 5
Pour the hot brewed coffee into the mug over the liqueurs, leaving about 1/2 inch at the top for the cream layer. Stir gently to integrate the coffee with the spirits.
Cream & Garnish
- 6
Lightly whip 2 tbsp heavy cream until it thickens slightly but remains pourable (soft peaks not required). If using half-and-half, simply pour gently without whipping.
- 7
Carefully float the cream on top of the coffee by pouring it over the back of a spoon held just above the surface to create a layered look.
- 8
Finish by sprinkling 1 tsp grated dark chocolate or a dusting of cocoa powder on the cream. Optionally garnish with a whole apricot or a twist of orange on the rim.
- 9
Serve immediately with a long spoon so the drinker can stir the cream into the coffee if desired.
