Barn Cheese Board

Method

Barn Cheese Board

  1. 1

    Prepare cheese

Remove the 10 oz barn cheese from refrigeration 20–30 minutes before serving to allow it to come to near room temperature (this improves flavor and texture). Keep it wrapped during this time so it doesn't dry out.

  2. 2

    Portion & arrange cheese

Unwrap the cheese and if it is a single block, trim or slice into a combination of presentation-friendly pieces: one half-inch thick fan of slices and two 1-inch chunks for easier spreading and sampling. Place the main block or slices on one side of your packaging or board surface.

  3. 3

    Arrange crackers

Select 4–6 assorted crackers and arrange them in small stacks or a fanned pattern beside the cheese so they are easy to grab. If packaging for takeout, set crackers in a separate compartment or in a small sealed sleeve to keep them crisp.

  4. 4

    Add accompaniments

Spoon 2 tablespoons of honey or place a small piece of honeycomb in a small lidded container or ramekin and set beside the cheese. Add 1 teaspoon of stone-ground mustard in a small container as well. Scatter 1/4 cup mixed nuts and 1/4 cup chopped dried fruit into another small compartment or a paper cup.

  5. 5

    Garnish & optional fruit

Add 2 small sprigs of fresh rosemary or thyme for aroma and visual appeal. If using fresh fruit, add 1/2 cup grapes or thinly sliced apple in a separate small container to prevent juice contact with crackers.

  6. 6

    Pack utensils & storage

Include a small cheese knife or spreader (or place a wooden spreader in packaging) and a small piece of parchment or a paper separator to prevent direct contact between cheese and crackers if they are in the same compartment. Seal all small containers to prevent spills.

  7. 7

    Serving suggestion

Recommend to the eater to let the cheese sit 10 minutes after opening the package to reach ideal eating temperature. Pair with wine, cider, or a favorite beverage. Consume within 24–48 hours for best freshness; refrigerate between uses.
