Ingredients for Steamed Clams

Method

Directions for Steaming Clams

  1. 1

    Prepare the Clams

Rinse the fresh clams under cold water, scrubbing the shells to remove any dirt or sand. Discard any clams that are open and do not close when tapped.

  2. 2

    Sauté Aromatics

In a large pot, melt the unsalted butter over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and chopped shallots, and sauté until they are soft and fragrant, about 3-4 minutes.

  3. 3

    Add White Wine

Pour in the white wine and stir in the salt and black pepper. Bring the mixture to a simmer.

  4. 4

    Steam the Clams

Carefully add the rinsed clams to the pot. Cover the pot with a lid and steam the clams for about 5-7 minutes, or until the clams have opened. Discard any clams that remain closed.

  5. 5

    Finishing Touches

Remove the pot from heat. Squeeze the juice of the whole lemon over the clams and sprinkle with fresh parsley before serving.

  6. 6

    Serve

Serve the steamed clams in a bowl with the broth, and provide melted drawn butter on the side for dipping.
