Chill the Glass
Begin by chilling your martini glass. You can do this by filling it with ice water and letting it sit while you prepare the cocktail.

Mix the Ingredients
In a mixing glass, add the gin or vodka and dry vermouth. Fill the mixing glass with ice.

Stir
Stir the mixture gently for about 30 seconds until well chilled.

Strain
Discard the ice water from your chilled martini glass and strain the cocktail mixture into the glass.

Garnish
Garnish with a single olive placed on a cocktail pick or simply dropped into the glass.
