1

Build and stir

Place a mixing glass or a rocks glass large enough to stir into on a bar towel. Add 2 oz Woodford Reserve, 0.25 oz simple syrup and 2 dashes Angostura bitters into the mixing glass.

2

Add ice and chill

Fill the mixing glass with large ice (or several large cubes). Using a long-handled bar spoon, stir briskly but smoothly for 20–30 seconds (about 20–30 rotations) until the mixture is well chilled and slightly diluted—glass will feel cold and slightly frosted on the outside.

3

Prepare serving glass

If you used a mixing glass, place a large ice cube into a chilled rocks glass. If you stirred in the serving glass, leave the ice in place. Strain the chilled cocktail over the large ice cube using a Hawthorne or julep strainer into the rocks glass.

4

Garnish

Express the oils from one piece of orange peel over the surface of the drink by holding the peel skin-side down about 3–4 inches above the cocktail and giving it a firm twist. Rub the rim of the glass with the peel and drop it into the drink (or set on rim) as a garnish.

5

Serve immediately and enjoy.
