1

Prepare glass

Select an old-fashioned or rocks glass. If you prefer a slightly chilled glass, place it in the freezer for a few minutes or fill it with ice while preparing the drink and discard that ice before assembly.

2

Combine ingredients

Add 0.25 oz cane sugar syrup and 4 dashes of the house bitters blend into the glass.

3

Add bourbon and optional water

Pour 2 oz Evan Williams Bottled-In-Bond into the glass. If you want the flavors to open slightly, add 0.25 oz water (or omit for a more concentrated drink).

4

Stir and chill

Add a large ice cube (or several large cubes) to the glass and stir gently with a bar spoon for 20–30 seconds until the drink is well chilled, slightly diluted, and slightly viscous.

5

Garnish

Express the oils from an orange peel over the drink by holding the peel over the glass and giving it a firm twist, then rub the peel around the rim and drop it into the drink. Optionally, add a luxardo or maraschino cherry.

6

Serve

Serve immediately on the rocks. Sip slowly to enjoy the balance of bourbon, sugar, and the house bitters blend.
