Buffalo Trace Recipe

Chill glass

Place an old-fashioned glass in the freezer for a few minutes or fill it with ice water to chill while you prepare the cocktail.

Combine ingredients

In a mixing glass or short shaker, add 2 oz Buffalo Trace bourbon, 2 dashes Angostura bitters, and 0.25 oz simple syrup.

Stir with ice

Fill the mixing glass with plenty of ice. Stir gently and steadily for 20–30 seconds (about 20–30 revolutions) until the mixture is well-chilled and slightly diluted.

Prepare serving glass

Discard the ice water from the chilled old-fashioned glass (if used) and add a single large ice cube or a few fresh ice cubes.

Strain

Strain the stirred cocktail into the prepared old-fashioned glass over the large ice cube.

Garnish

Express the oils from the orange peel over the drink by holding it skin-side down about 2–3 inches above the glass and giving it a sharp twist, then rub the peel on the glass rim and drop it into the drink.

For a slightly sweeter, fruit-forward variant, drop a maraschino cherry into the glass after straining.

If you prefer a lighter finish, add a small splash (about 0.25 oz) of club soda on top and gently give the drink one short stir to combine.
