Method

Cocktail

1

Chill glass

Place a coupe or martini glass in the freezer for 5–10 minutes or fill with ice water while you prepare the cocktail to chill.

2

Combine ingredients

Add 2 oz vodka, 0.5 oz dry vermouth, 0.5 oz fresh lemon juice, 0.25 oz simple syrup, and 2 dashes orange bitters into a mixing glass or cocktail shaker.

3

Add ice

Fill the mixing glass or shaker with ice (about 1 cup) to near the brim to ensure rapid chilling and proper dilution.

4

Stir or shake

If you prefer a silky, clear cocktail, stir the mixture with a bar spoon for 20–30 seconds until well chilled and slightly diluted. If you prefer a brighter, slightly more aerated drink, shake vigorously for 10–12 seconds.

5

Strain

Discard the ice or water from your chilled serving glass. Double-strain the cocktail into the chilled coupe or martini glass using a Hawthorne strainer and a fine-mesh strainer to remove small ice shards and citrus pulp.

6

Garnish

Express the lemon twist over the surface of the cocktail to release essential oils, then rub the twist around the rim and drop it into the drink. Optionally add a cocktail cherry on a pick for a touch of color.

Optional finishing

7

If desired, spray a light spritz of lemon oil over the finished drink for extra aroma. Serve immediately.
