Pizza Dough and Toppings
Method
Preparation and Baking
- 1
Make the Dough
In a large mixing bowl, combine the warm water and yeast. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until frothy. Add the flour, olive oil, and salt. Mix until a dough forms.
- 2
Knead the Dough
Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- 3
Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C). If you have a pizza stone, place it in the oven to heat up.
- 4
Shape the Pizza
Once the dough has risen, punch it down and turn it out onto a floured surface. Roll it out into a circle about 12 inches in diameter.
- 5
Add the Toppings
Transfer the rolled-out dough to a pizza peel or baking sheet. Spread the tomato sauce evenly over the base. Tear the fresh mozzarella into pieces and distribute them over the sauce. Scatter fresh basil leaves on top.
- 6
Bake the Pizza
Drizzle with extra virgin olive oil and bake in the preheated oven for about 10-12 minutes or until the crust is golden and the cheese is bubbly.
- 7
Serve
Remove the pizza from the oven, let it cool for a minute, slice, and serve hot.
