Method
Cocktail

- 2
Measure and add spirits
In a mixing glass add 2 oz London dry gin, 0.5 oz dry vermouth, 0.25 oz Luxardo maraschino, and 0.25 oz yellow Chartreuse.
- 3
Bitters
Add 2 dashes of orange bitters to the mixing glass.
- 4
Stir with ice
Fill the mixing glass with large ice cubes. Stir gently and consistently for 20–30 seconds (about 20–30 good turns) until the mixture is well chilled, slightly diluted, and slightly viscous.
- 5
Prepare glass (optional rinse)
If using the optional absinthe accent, discard the ice or water from the chilled glass, add about 1/4 tsp absinthe, swirl to coat the inside, then pour out or discard the excess so only a thin anise-scented film remains.
- 6
Strain and garnish
Double-strain the cocktail from the mixing glass into the chilled coupe or Nick & Nora glass using a Hawthorne and fine strainer (or just a julep strainer). Express a lemon twist over the surface by pinching the peel to release oils, then run the peel around the glass rim and drop it into the drink as garnish.
- 7
Serve
Serve immediately. The Aristocrat is best enjoyed slightly chilled and aromatic; sip slowly to appreciate the balance of herbal Chartreuse, nutty maraschino, bright citrus, and dry gin.
